Commission piece of Carol Danvers aka-Captain Marvel(formerly Ms. Marvel) from Marvel Comics. Done on Canson drawing paper with ink brush pens, warm and cool Copic markers, white prismacolor pencil, and Uni-ball Sigma white pigma pens. Entire thing including the start field was done traditionally.

Hope you dig!

Mark,
Absolutely incredible!
I'm a Captain Marvel fan from way back in the Rick Jones Nega Bands era.
I love the energy and brashness you portray in the character here.

A new fan.

Nice drawing but it's still an awful costume design. Wish they had just kept the second one with the Ms. Marvel name. That's been the characters best long-term look WITH LONG HAIR. The short hair looks bad with that costume not that anything will save that bad design... and the colors don't work in the comic, either. <SIGH> They just don't know how to design characters at Marvel or DC anymore and they don't leave the long-term designs that have worked for decades alone, either!

I know that's not your fault --- it's Marvel and their ridiculous initiatives. (Don't get me wrong --- DC is JUST AS BAD now.) People read the hero comics for escapism/action/adventure but they've become so politicized over the past decade and driven by so many editorial ego's and obvious edicts that the fun is gone...

This won't bring more girls to comics and it'll only tick off the long-term fans more. First, they have to write an intelligent character in a book that appeals to a lot of people... or figure out the current trends and write to those. The comic book companies haven't figured this out and generally are years if not a decade late jumping on fads! This new "Captain Marvel" comic ain't it. The character just isn't popular enough -- even with what's left of hero fan circles -- and strong enough to carry a book on her own. She's better off as a character in one of the Avengers books rather than a solo act... (Didn't we go through exercise already a few years back on her last solo book??? That really sold well -- NOT.)

That and frankly no comic named "Captain Marvel" has ever sold well for Marvel... The last time a "Captain Marvel" character was popular was late 1940s... You can't just slap the word "Marvel" on a comic and expect it to sell... Now, "Avengers" or "X-Men" labels are a different story.

Not a good move and it also smacks of a publishing decision made to keep a copyright on two words -- "Captain Marvel."

That whole business of copyrighting language is something that's always annoyed me about both Marvel and DC Comics. I can understand copyrighting images of the characters and protecting those IP's but frankly I could care less if there were a half-dozen comics with the words "superheroes" or "marvel." It's the threats of lawsuits over those more generic words that really get ridiculous...
