Artist's Comments

This is one of the submissions that I hesitate to submit to DA because I don't know how to feel about them. I work largely from my own imagination and rarely, if ever, use reference so it's always weird to draw from a photograph. I don't mean to dog on the people that draw from photographs exclusively but I find that it doesn't require very much imagination and relies much more on technique and skill, much like a draftsman ( a skill which I could stand to work on a bit more). I prefer not to do it if I can help it but I couldn't pass up the opportunity to draw Indiana Jones. These are trading cards that are going to be randomly inserted into packs of Indiana Jones trading cards from Topps so Indy fans get the chance to pull an original piece of artwork when they buy packs of cards. Each card it drawn at only 2.5 inches by 3.5 inches(roughly the size of a baseball card) so I had very limited space but I found it to be a fun little exorcise. In fact, depending our your monitor size, you're seeing them at a bit bigger than I drew them.
All are done traditionally using anything I could find around my drawing table including copic markers, watercolor, prismacolor, pencil, and white and black ink. Each card took me anywhere from 10 minutes to 4 hours depending on the card.
If you want to read more about the card set check out Topps at [link]

Hope you dig!

Damn man, this is crazy hot. I know it was utilizing reference, but the realistic techniques you've been throwing into your work in the last year has astounded me none the less. And this set is no different. Gorgeous work, dude.

I see some of your sketches look a bit Bridgman influenced. Do you use Bridgman books when helping you draw?
And I love Indiana Jones.
Instant Fav!

Wow! With the limited amount of space you had to do each card, you proved your talent very well. And I'm sure it was a challenge to do as well. And well wroth the effort. I love how each on is slightly different than the last. Be it full color or black and white, each dramatic in it's own way. :+fav:

Indiana Jones has got to be the hottest man EVAH and these cards do the films so much justice! I'm intrigued by knowing that the actual cards will be randomly placed in packs. It makes me wonder if the set will ever be complete again. Kinda mind boggling--

Beautiful artwork!
